Toshar lake Trek

Tosar Lake is located at an altitude of 13000 ft in between the Mangan Ridge and the Chola Range. To the south east of the lake, is a giant cliff or mountain overlooking the Lake. It is considered sacred and worshiped by the local people. Some of the best views of the Khangchendzonga East face is seen from this region.

This trek begins from the road head at Naksuk, Naga Reserved Forest above Naga village which is about an hour drive from Mangan. It follows the old traditional yak and cow trails in the Reserve forest. It passes through soggy temperate  forest of broad leaved species and bamboos. This trek is especially popular for its mountain views, floral spectacle in summer, beautiful birds and views of pristine forest.    
Tosar Lake is located at the junction of the Mangan and Chola range. The maximum height of the ridge is about 4340 m at Maram Chu. The other important peaks of the Mangan ridge are Phyakchung (3740 m), Anden peak (3700 m) and Pandot peak (2375 m). The important spur is the Phodong spur running southwards from the main ridge. The southern face of the Mangan ridge is very steep whereas the north facing slope is gentler. The trek passes through the northern slope of the Mangan Ridge.

 

Daywise Tour Plan

Arrival and Transfer to Gangtok

Upon arrival at NJP, Bagdogra, or Phontsoling, you'll embark on a scenic drive to Gangtok. Once in Gangtok, settle in for an overnight stay.

Journey from Gangtok to Mangan

Begin your day by heading to Mangan. After a tranquil drive, you'll reach Mangan, where you'll rest for the night.

Trek Begins at Naksuk

Start your adventure with a trek from Naksuk, a starting point near Naga Village, an hour’s drive from Mangan. The trail takes you through dense forest paths used by local herds, offering a unique introduction to the region’s flora. Your trek covers 12 kilometers, leading to the first campsite at Sohar Dhe, situated at an elevation of 2,750 meters.

Exploring the Sub-Alpine Forest

Continue trekking through sub-alpine forests rich with conifer and rhododendron trees, ascending to altitudes between 8,000 and 10,500 feet. Camp for the night in Saohar Antsok Patam Valley, a pristine location at 10,496 feet, historically known as a habitat for musk deer.

Valley Exploration and Rest

Take a break from trekking to explore the stunning surroundings of the valley. Enjoy the serene atmosphere while acclimatizing and resting.

Ascend to Tosar Lake

Embark on a challenging uphill trek towards Tosar Lake, situated at 13,120 feet. Passing through alpine flora, conifer, and rhododendron forests, the journey is approximately 8 kilometers. Set up camp just below the lake, allowing for a peaceful night surrounded by nature.

Return to Maram Forest

Retrace your steps down the mountain, returning to Maram Forest. This second-time camping spot, at 10,660 feet, offers another restful night in the heart of the wilderness.

Trek to Meyong Tar

Continue trekking along the familiar path until you diverge towards Meyong Tar, located deep within the Meyong Reserve Forest. Here, you’ll set up camp at an altitude of 10,594 feet.

From Meyong Tar to Kaley Village

Begin your descent from Meyong Tar, passing through Kaley Reserve Forest until you arrive at Kaley Village. This peaceful village marks the end of the reserve forest terrain, offering a taste of local life.

Return to Mangan and Transfer to Singhik

After finishing your trek, return to Mangan Base Camp. From there, you'll be driven to Singhik for an overnight stay, allowing you to relax after days of exploration.

Singhik to Gangtok

In the morning, drive back to Gangtok, enjoying the views along the way. This day will be a relaxing return journey to the city.

Departure from Gangtok

Bid farewell to Sikkim as you travel from Gangtok to NJP, Bagdogra, or Phontsoling for your departure.
